We don't have a compiler-neutral way to do this.

It would be great to be able to turn on -Werror and -Wall when
building with gcc, as various parts of the tree get clean, to prevent
the introduction of new warnings.

NetBSD have a way to enable compiler warning flags (and other related
stuff, like compiling in debugging assertions) which we should
probably look into.  I can take a look at this over the weekend.
