You'll have to uninstall gnomecore, gnomedesktop, gnomepanel,
gnomesession, then reinstall gnomedesktop, gnomepanel, and gnomesession
(you'll probably want to uninstall gnomecontrolcenter, too).  That
should get things cleared up for you.  You'll be sure to look at
Makefiles in the future ;-).
