I am using FreeBSD for a long time and this time I got into a problem that I cannot handle. I want to install on a brand new machine the latest current version in the 4 series from snapshots.jp.freebsd.org Still, even with the sysinstall from CD-rom or floppies I get the same results - write error. I have a 60Gb harddisk and this is not my first install. The layout fs is something like: / 128M swap 3G /var 3G /var/tmp 2G /usr 4G If I try to install from the CD it works fine but from the ftp it fails. It connects, starts installing and then it sais: write fail I found out that in facts in writes in / that is /dev/md0c or something i.e. the bootable ramdisk. i tried with the /mnt - it works but the system does not boot anymore. In the handbook it says that the / install point should not be tempered with but still i get the same errors. I tried *every* parameter in the option menu and I get the same result. I switched the layout from /var/tmp to /tmp back and forth ; also the Temp parameter in the Option menu - to no good. What it is wrong. I followed the instructions but I cannot install over the FTP. If someone has just a tiny clue please let me know. I have to put up a server and I spent over a day trying to install FreeBSD at no good. You can imagine my disposition...
