Ok.  Maybe you have to load some kernel modules ("usb" and "ugen" come
to mind)?

Last time I tried, it worked just fine with my "PowerShot S100" (sold
under the name "Digital IXUS something" outside the US), just by
plugging it in.  I don't have acces to neither the camera nor the
computer in question at the moment, so I can't check to see if I have
done any special configuration, though.

I sure hope it still works, because I don't want to run windows.  Ever.
