I don't know what a features a 1542C offers, but the CP version 
supports the SCSI SCAM protocol for negotiating the SCSI id and Plug and 
Play support.

I will need to get FreeBSD installed on an IDE drive to rebuild the kernel.
Unless someone can create a new kernel for me on a bootable 1.44M floppy,
it might be a couple of days.
