Sure, there is :
just add "ppp -auto <ISP>" in your /rc/rc.local file

As for Cable modems, the main point is setting up a DHCP client and you
will find info on the subject by searching the mailing list archives
(from www.freebsd.org : follow the <search> button).
I have set up the wide-dhcp client with relative ease (the accompanying
doc is good - if you remember to add enough bpf drivers in your kernel)
