I chose ports because I have no idea =20 what the problem is: kde or xorg or ? > First, rename or delete your xorg.conf and try startx again. I am putting the link to the =20 xorg.0.log here. http://encontacto.net/bsd/Xorg.0.log-no-xorg.conf Thanks for the information. I missed that over the last few updates. =20 I also see that it wanted to use the vesa driver that isn't quite as =20 nice as the nvidia but to get away from the black terminals that I =20 loved so much in the '80's. > > If not, or if you want an xorg.conf, a current sample for an ancient =20 > GeForce2 follows. Your =20 reference to dbus and hal and the BusID, worry me. I'm going to take =20 a closer look at them to. I didn't even include them in my testing mix. > > Section "ServerLayout" > =09Identifier "Xorg" > =09Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0 > =09Option "DontZap" "Off" > EndSection > > Section "Files" > =09ModulePath "/usr/local/lib/xorg/modules" > =09FontPath "/usr/local/lib/X11/fonts/misc/" > =09FontPath "/usr/local/lib/X11/fonts/TTF/" > =09FontPath "/usr/local/lib/X11/fonts/OTF" > =09FontPath "/usr/local/lib/X11/fonts/Type1/" > =09FontPath "/usr/local/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi/" > =09FontPath "/usr/local/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/" > EndSection > > Section "DRI" > =09Group 0 > =09Mode 0660 > EndSection > > Section "Extensions" > =09Option "Composite" "Disable" > EndSection > > Section "Device" > =09Identifier "Card0" > =09Driver "nvidia" > =09VendorName "nVidia Corporation" > =09BoardName "NV11 [GeForce2 MX/MX 400]" > =09BusID "PCI:1:0:0" > EndSection > > Section "Screen" > =09Identifier "Screen0" > =09Device "Card0" > =09SubSection "Display" > =09=09Virtual 1024 768 > =09EndSubSection > EndSection > > -Warren Block * Rapid City, South Dakota USA Thanks, ed
