 I have encountered the same problem.
 Using a network device with an rt73 chipset (thus using the rum driver), 
 and with WPA, I get a kernel panic within minutes.
 I have not yet tested the device without WPA.
 
 Unlike Oliver, I have an Intel ICH7 chipset.
