That's because defragging is a very major win under dos, and a fairly
minor one for a unix running an ffs filesystem.  There are some
commercial implementations I've heard of, but I've never heard that they
made very much of a performance difference ... probably relying on folks
not understanding the underlying differences in the dos and ffs
filesystems.
