I seem to remember the Philips based worm drives did work.  We know that
the HP 4020i (and perhaps later) worms work.

Yes, FreeBSD can be used to burn iso9660-compliant discs.  Example scripts
are in /usr/share/examples/worm.  Some info is available in Chapter 10 of
the handbook (http://www.freebsd.org/handbook).
