If this is the recent Mach64, the stock XFree86 3.1.2 Xserver won't
run on it.  They haven't released any newer version yet, but you could
obtain a beta server which will do it on those cards (but has an
expiration date to force you upgrading to the next release some day).

Normally, yes, but i think FTP installations have been broken in one
of the SNAPs.  I forgot which one, however.
