In case anyone is wondering, I wanted to add this back into my kernel because I prefer not to load modules. Adding the line: device joy to my kernel conf and recompiling worked. Strange that the joy device doesn't appear in my dmesg, but appears in pciconf -lv... Either way, it works for me.
