Oh, i'm sorry, forgot the link: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=201709 As you can see there was already a try to bring it to a current (and supported) 1.9.x version, but it failed and the maintainership was dropped. :/ I could help in creating a new port with magento 2.
