The modem device is probably wrong then.  at the ppp> prompt type 'set
device /dev/cuaa?', where ? = sio device number (sio0=COM1, sio1=COM1,
etc..)

Note that sysinstall and the GENERIC kernel do not include support for
comports over COM2.
