SVR3s didn't have symlinks, they probably did it with hard > links then (and everything has been under /etc, of course). Nope. SysV just has the files in /etc/init.d and /etc/rcX.d. These files contain BOTH scripts and parameters. Yes, some of them use configuration files from /etc/default but it is not a common case and the connection between them is not obvious. -SB
