Umm, that's strange.. I did the clean by removed everything such as rm -rf ~/.gdesklets and /usr/X11R6/share/gnome/gdesklets, then do the clean install. I don't get any problem... What's version of Python do you have installed? Have you tried to run it in English version? I have spotted that I need to clean/correct the pkg-plist and etc..
