This problem has been driving me crazy. If I load gimp first, communicator 4.61
second, all is normal. Reverse and gimp has weird colors for the KDE vt, and
gimp's windows. I have a diamond speedstar64/2000 1meg and a plain 486/100
proc & mb. I have gotten this far.

In short, netscape does some color swapping, I think, I just got to this
page. good luck.
