Actually I have done this several times.  I am getting everything in
src-all and meticulously following /usr/src/UPDATING instructions.
Each time I remove all of src tree.

kernel out of sync with userland. One possible cause could be that you for
some reson have got /usr/src/sys out of sync with the rest of /usr/src.
  If you really like to follow this to the roots, try to backup your
kernel-config, remove /usr/src and re-cvsup. That should solve any issues.
