I'm using a radeon 9600 Pro driving a display at 1680x1050. I was using
a 9500 before that - both seem to work fine with Xorg 7.3. I've also
experimented with a 9800 Pro - which also works fine (but generates too
much heat, requiring active cooling whereas the 9600 does not).

My experience has been that certainly older ATI cards are fine.

Cheers
