I can see that this is by no means a trivial endevour.

Unfortunately I have NO knowledge of Linux, though I'm happy to test Samba =
as
AD and as fileserver (On FreeBSD 12.3-Stable).  Do you have a location for
material that we can/should draw from for testing?

PS I'm stuck on UFS2 due to our use of MAC_BIBA
