Someone explains me long time ago that our config files are not just templates but really working settings for least common denominator of expectations. Everybody excpects that login will check mail. We'll have lot of questions 'why not' from newbies otherwise. We'll forced to answer them 'RTFM' each and each time. I don't think it is nice. -- Andrey A.
