It appears I failed to look at the samba.sh init script properly which is created in a way where 'samba_enable="YES"' only loads the nmbd daemon and not the more important smbd daemon for actual shares, I should of had this in my rc.conf nmbd_enable="YES" smbd_enable="YES" Mike
