I think you're confusing me with someone else, I have always been too 
lazy to actually report this... good to hear someone did, though. :)

I can reproduce that here.

Doesn't work with the iso8859-15 locale.

After taking a few glances at the code, manual pages and google, I've 
come to the conclusion that this is indeed some long-standing bug of 
XFree86 *sigh*. I'll just keep my wrapperscript for now.
