It would help to know what is the value of `sysctl hw.ixl.enable_head_writeback` in your setup, and what does `dmesg | grep "netmap queues"` say. Could you please point me at the URL where you got your "releng/11.2 kernel (FreeBSD 11.2-RELEASE-p8 #0 r343486)" exactly ? You are saying that ixl in = this version works, but r343486 corresponds to HEAD, which you are saying it doe= sn't work... If ixl works on releng/11.2 than we can check what happened since then. If you found that ixl/netmap doesn't work on 12.x, it means that the issue there is in iflib, since ixl uses iflib, and iflib provides netmap support = for all the drivers.
