Version: FreeBSD 2.0.5-RELEASE. The installation boot floppy I am using is from the UPDATES directory, Jun 12, identified as the absolutely, positively last RELEASE floppy. Problem: The installation process destroys a slice it was told not to touch. Under (P)artition, I select both wd0 and sd0. Under (L)abel, I set up the mount points as indicated below. This is a test installation. I want to try 2.0.5 without being too final about it, and having the luxury of extra disk space, therefore I want most of the 1.1.5.1 partitions to be left ALONE, so no mountpoint was set. (These partitions could just as well have been ones I wanted to save off and convert later due to a shortage of time and/or tapes to do it all at once.) 2.0.5 could have sd0s4h which I could put back later. After installation, I end up with wd0 having a DOS slice ONLY; wd0 slice 4 has been deleted. (I did not use any delete commands). wd0 had a bootblock that offered DOS only. (I was hoping for at least DOS on wd0 and 2.0.5 on sd0). Using 1.1.5.1 fdisk, I restored slice 4 in the MBR. The slice 4 disklabel and contents were apparently unchanged. Using a 2.0.5 floppy to load the boot code, I could boot 2.0.5. I was prepared to have to re-do the sd0s4 disklabel when switching between 2.0.5 and 1.1.5.1, but it doesn't seem to be necessary as long as they don't touch each other's partitions (except swap).
