Hi, I'm trying to understand the current state of Nvidia driver support
under FreeBSD. This is my current understanding - please confirm or deny:

1) XFree86 "nv" driver - all nvidia cards, no 3d?
2) David Rufino's "nvidia" driver - a wrapper for the linux binaries? no 3d
3) Matthew Dodd's (native?) "nvidia" driver - no 3d
4) Nvidia's supported native FreeBSD driver - yes 3d, but doesn't exist

What are the advantages and disadvantages of each of these? If the
XFree86 driver supports my card, and none of the existing drivers does 3d,
what is the advantage of the other two drivers?

As a side question, how does/will 3d support work from an application or
API perspective? If I have an application that uses OpenGL and links
against Mesa, does Mesa check and see if the Xserver supports GL, and if
so, passes the GL calls straight through to X, and if the server doesn't
support GL, Mesa "emulates" it? I have no idea if that's even close, but
I was just wondering about it, and that's the first thing that came to
mind....

Thanks for any help you can give.

 -Jason

that 10 or 15 years from now, she will come to me and say "Daddy, where
were you when they took freedom of the press away from the Internet?"
