How is this overcome by events? The update is still necessary and there is a
ready to test patch here.

@Oliver Would it make sense for committers to finish the patch completely a=
nd
you test to make sure that it works for you as a user and maintainer of the
port? I think once it has been cleaned up, maintaining it for smaller updat=
es
will be much easier for you.

Also, for future work, would it make sense to talk a bit about port workflo=
ws,
tools (linting, checking etc)?

I'm changing this back to in-progress and claim it, as I think what the PR =
is
asking for is still valid and required and we will sort it out/steer it home
somehow.
