Forgot that I had enabled "device cryptodev= " in my kernel conf. After disabling this, encfs is working again. I still have "device crypto" enabled in kernel. From the cryptodev man pag= e, I can't tell the difference between device crypto and device cryptodev. The = man page for aesni says you need both crypto and cryptodev. I still see the ae= sni0 device though, so it's not clear what the requirements are. All I know is = that cryptodev breaks encfs.
