Are you sure?  /usr/X11R6/bin/gnome-session should be installed by the
gnomesession package.

To start an entire gnome session with desktop, it's gnome-session.  If
this command doesn't exist, something got screwed up.  You probably
should then try building /usr/ports/x11/gnomesession.  By the way, what
version of FreeBSD is this?
