Yep. I did a 'crontab -l' as root and didn't see it. I didn't know about
/etc/crontab. Thanks, Edwin.

This was the problem. Duh! Thanks, Christoph. I have a SunOS
background. FreeBSD is so familiar and yet so foreign that sometimes I
forget to look at the obvious things.
