There are a number of options for the ports *system*, as opposed to
the individual ports, that you may want to set as well.  LOCALBASE
comes to mind. Setting those means you have no choice.

The other benefit is that you have the source around for tweaking
should that be required. That's what generates that warm fuzzy feeling
from having compiled the software on my machine.
