Well it all just seems to magically work today.
The alpha sent out bootp and got a reply, loaded srmboot, its kernel,
booted 99.9% of the way there, no login prompt though ( no biggy yet :)

I am going to ponder this one to figure out why it all of a sudden works
so I can post what my fix was.
