I saw this gadget in my local "computers, tools and anything" store, and just had to buy it. It is a telephone (handset) with an usb connector. On the box, it is labeled as "USB broadband telephone", and on the back it says "supports most Softphone programs, protocol independent, H.323 or SIP, conforms to USB 12 Mbps 1.1 standard, conforms to USB audio device release 1.0, real-time volumen adjustment button". I repeat this here because the Doro web page (http://www.doro.com/) was less than informational in describing their products. The manual says that only Win 98SE/ME/2000/XP or Mac OS9 / OSX is supported, but I already guessed that (except for the Mac part). When I connect it to my FreeBSD box, /var/log/messages shows: May 19 22:59:53 kg-work kernel: uhid0: ??Welltech Computer Doro 212IPC, rev 1.00/47.26, addr 3, iclass 1/1 usbdevs -v says: port 2 addr 3: full speed, power 500 mA, config 1, Doro 212IPC(0x1020), ??Welltech Computer(0x0451), rev 47.26 Now, if I only could get this to work with Skype. :) -- Regards, Torfinn Ingolfsen, Norway
