Local configuration error > ---CUT HERE--- Do you have ferrum.edu in the 'w' class in either sendmail.cw or in sendmail.cf ? In the .cf file, you'll see a line "Cw localhost". Add ferrum.edu on this line, kill and run sendmail again. That should fix the problem.
