Try a null modem cable and/or get one of the serial port "serial port LED
thingys" from radio shack or similar to determine if your pinning is
correct.

Generally you need a null modem cable between the two devices.   Flipping
pins 2&3 in the cable *should* at least get you the POST messages out of
the sun box if this is the problem.  If it is, you will need to do some
more work to get a proper null modem cable.
