I had assumed the problem was broader than this I have had two boxes 
upgraded from 3.x stable to 4.0 stable (ie pre 4.1) and both were unable to
detect their IDE CDs (actually DVDs)  post upgrade.

THe only workaround I have seen suggest was to drop back to the old IDE
driver.

For the record both were slaves to ATA/66 capable disks.
