Well, I don't really think that we need something complicated as you have described. My personal preference is introduction of PKGABIVERSION for each port, and turning PKGREVISION into arithmetic sum of all port's dependencies plus its own PORTREVISION. When you are deleting some of dependencies from some port you can always compensate for decrease in resulting PKGABIVERSION by increasing PORTREVISION and PKGABIVERSION of that port by the same amount. This would also automagically ensure that binary packages built on bento will respect ABI changes. As to the potential slowdown, you can avoid it by placing PKGABIREVISION suming into package-depends-list target, which traverses all dependencies anyway, so that with a properly designed algorithm there will be no slowdown (take a look at my latest bsd.port.mk speedup patch[1] - it speeds up execution of the package-depends-list target by the factor of two and could be easily extended to produce list of all PKGABIVERSIONs from dependencies in addition to PKGNAMEs and directories). -Maxim [1] bento:/var/portbuild/4-exp/ports/bsd.port.mk To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-ports" in the body of the message
