Correction to an claim I made in comment
#1 back on 2016-Nov-10:

While comment #1 is correct about what I did
as far as the devel/binutils prerequisite
goes it turns out that devel/binutils 2.27
works and so I did not have to revert to an
older vintage.

For the purposes of this submittal it should
not matter which of the two vintages of
devel/binutils is/was used.

And, yes,

ports/head/base/*

use requires (uses):

ports/head/devel/binutils

so both binutils ports are involved overall.
