FreeBSD XXX 8.2-RELEASE-p10 FreeBSD 8.2-RELEASE-p10 #7: Sat Oct 6 14:53:51 CEST 2012 root@XXX:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/XXX i386
>Description:
In the handbook you find under "25.2.3.1.1 Custom Kernels with FreeBSD 8.X and Earlier" instruction to install / generate a GENERIC kernel as part of a major upgrade.

In "25.2.3.2 Performing the Upgrade" is no link to the previous section "25.2.3.1.1". When you generate the GENERIC kernel following "25.2.3.1.1" and work through "25.2.3.2" the GENERIC kernel is removed as part of the "freebsd-update install" command.

"nextboot -k GENERIC" will fail cause GENERIC is removed.
>How-To-Repeat:
Follow handbook "25.2.3.1.1" and then "25.2.3.2"
>Fix:
GENERIC kernel must be build after the first "freebsd-update install" command.
