I didn't intend for the transition to last this long, mea culpa, but
bear also in mind that the "new sound code" isn't *enabled* by default
anywhere yet nor is it suggested as a definitive replacement for the
old, putting it rather well off the critical path.  I didn't expect
folks to jump on it quite as quickly as they did. :)
