That's because it it trying to do a DNS lookup on the IP address you are
connecting from, and it waits until it fails.  If set up BIND on your box,
and point the nameserver argument in /etc/resolv.conf to the internal ip
address of your box, set up your reverse IP and other IP, set it up as a
caching DNS server, you should be good to go.
