The following reply was made to PR ports/73993; it has been noted by GNATS.

Upon further reflection, I've determined that the reason for my failure
is _because_ I followed the instructions in ports/UPDATING.

The mpeg4ip-libmp4v2 installation is incomplete. faac auto-detects
that libmp4v2 is present and tries to use it but the relevant include
files aren't installed so the faac build dies.

If I _hadn't_ followed the build instructions and just re-installed
mpeg4ip, faac would have been built before mpeg4ip-libmp4v2 and everything
 would have been successful.
