Hi Ben,
Well all I can think of from glancing at this, is, did you set up the raid
befor booting all the way into the FreeBSD system...i mean at POST or bios time?

I sell systems, http://freebsdsystems.com and when I send out RAID systems,
using FreeBSD 4.1-STABLE (as of now) they all work properly. 

Maybe you should contact Dell. 

Hope that helps you out.
Oh by the way, I use Mylex lbd Raid and it works like a charm. As far as dell
goes, I have no clue as to their motherboards or serverboards as they are all
proprietary. I use only Intel serverboards.
