I don't know, not having tried this particular configuration combination
since.

Then why does it fail only when SVr4 emulation is installed?  My somewhat
fuzzy recollection was that SVr4 emulation prevented the loader from
interpreting one of the ELF brands correctly, even after I manually reapplied
the brand.
