Nope, here's what I'm using.

Section "Pointer"
    Protocol    "Logitech"
    Device      "/dev/ttyd0"

Is it possible that your mouse is 'locking' up?  Is your serial line
setup to use clocal?  Are you doing anything within /etc/rc.serial?
