	amd uses variables just fine. I have a mixed solaris and freebsd
environment at work and I use variables in the autofs and amd maps both.

	Send some examples to freebsd-fs@freebsd.org. amd does have a learning
curve, but it's not insurmountable. I wouldn't mind seeing autofs ported
to freebsd, but I see it as a complement to amd, not a replacement.
