The best way is to do all the development from within a Linux shell (ie /compat/linux/bin/bash or variant). Since the shell is a Linux binary, any algorithm performed by the shell to find binaries will be subject to the mapping performed by the linux kernel module. Thus, in a nutshell, you'll be running the Linux versions of well-known tools if they exist, including compiler. The compiler driver will do the rest.
