Anyway, to follow up on myself, the problem still exists in the 980311-BETA. I have found the following out though. 1) /stand/sysinstall after installation works fine, it's only the sysinstall off the boot floppy that exhibits this problem. 2) It's not a change in format. I can do a new install, then using the same boot disk that I installed from, attempt to do an upgrade, and I won't see anything from the Label Editor. Here's some more information on the system I have set aside just to diagnose this problem (Unfortunately I don't have time at work to try to debug this myself, certainly not before 2.2.6 is due): This machine was freshly installed using 2.2-980309-SNAP, then upgraded to 2.2-980311-BETA, though I had to use a 2.2.5 Boot disk to do the upgrade. The one thing I notice is that the bios and dmesg both say that the disk is 1120 cylinders, 16 heads, 59 sectors, but disklabel halves the number of cylinders and doubles the heads. I also see this problem on a machine with an AHA2940UW, which is not in the bios, and had the geometry 8668/64/32. (I also just noticed that it is still running the SNAP kenel, not the BETA one, even though the timestamp on the /kernel file is the time of the BETA install). Label Editor displays (when run from /stand/sysinstall): FreeBSD Disklabel Editor Disk: wd0 Partition name: wd0s1 Free: 0 blocks (0MB) Part Mount Size Newfs Part Mount Size Newfs ---- ----- ---- ----- ---- ----- ---- ----- wd0s1a <none> 32MB * wd0s1b swap 33MB SWAP wd0s1e <none> 30MB * wd0s1f <none> 420MB * # disklabel /dev/rwd0c # /dev/rwd0c: type: ESDI disk: wd0s1 label: flags: bytes/sector: 512 sectors/track: 59 tracks/cylinder: 32 sectors/cylinder: 1888 cylinders: 559 sectors/unit: 1057221 rpm: 3600 interleave: 1 trackskew: 0 cylinderskew: 0 headswitch: 0 # milliseconds track-to-track seek: 0 # milliseconds drivedata: 0 8 partitions: # size offset fstype [fsize bsize bps/cpg] a: 65536 0 4.2BSD 0 0 0 # (Cyl. 0 - 34*) b: 69328 65536 swap # (Cyl. 34*- 71*) c: 1057221 0 unused 0 0 # (Cyl. 0 - 559*) e: 61440 134864 4.2BSD 0 0 0 # (Cyl. 71*- 103*) f: 860917 196304 4.2BSD 0 0 0 # (Cyl. 103*- 559*) dmesg returns Copyright (c) 1992-1998 FreeBSD Inc.
