This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ------=_NextPart_000_002A_01C1F056.E40D11C0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable I am attempting to install FreeBSD 4.5 from CDROM, after having prepared = the kern.flp and msfroot.flp floppies. =20 The drive is a Toshiba XM5702B 12x CD-ROM, attached to the secondary IDE = port. Is this a supported CD-ROM? The processor is a Pentium 486-DX4 running at 100Mhz. The BIOS reports 16Mb of RAM. This will be a dedicated BSD box -- no other OS's. My installation of FreeBSD 4.5 proceeds to the point of copying the = contents of /bin to the root file system. The message: Extracting bin into / directory. . . appears in a Progress window. At the bottom of the screen, a message = states that: 1024 bytes read from bin dist, chunk 1 of 143 @ 1.0 KBytes/sec. I have restarted many, many times. (On one occasion, the previous = message suggested that the read progressed to chunk 2. Prior to the = installation's attempted copy of the file system, distributions, etc., = the kernal configuration reported that=20 All filesystem information (was) written successfully;=20 however, the message: starting emergency holographic shell on VTY4 . . .appears. What is the significance of the so-called emergency = holographic shell? How should I use it? At the point that the extract = stops, the system is locked-up. Nothing seems to respond. My only = recourse is to reboot and start over. Suggestions? Thanks, Ron W. ------=_NextPart_000_002A_01C1F056.E40D11C0 Content-Type: text/html; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"> <HTML><HEAD> <META content=3D"text/html; charset=3Diso-8859-1" = http-equiv=3DContent-Type> <META content=3D"MSHTML 5.00.2919.6307" name=3DGENERATOR> <STYLE></STYLE> </HEAD> <BODY bgColor=3D#ffffff> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2>I am attempting to install FreeBSD 4.5 = from CDROM,=20 after having prepared the <STRONG>kern.flp</STRONG> and=20 <STRONG>msfroot.flp</STRONG> floppies. </FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2>The drive is a <STRONG>Toshiba XM5702B = 12x=20 CD-ROM</STRONG>, attached to the secondary IDE port. <FONT=20 color=3D#ff0000><STRONG>Is this a supported = CD-ROM?</STRONG></FONT></FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2>The processor is a Pentium 486-DX4 = running at=20 100Mhz.</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2>The BIOS reports 16Mb of = RAM.</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2>This will be a dedicated BSD box -- no = other=20 OS's.</FONT></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2>My installation of FreeBSD 4.5 proceeds = to the=20 point of copying the contents of /bin to the root file system.
