I am attempting to install FreeBSD 4.5 from CDROM, after having prepared =
the kern.flp and msfroot.flp floppies. =20
The drive is a Toshiba XM5702B 12x CD-ROM, attached to the secondary IDE =
port. Is this a supported CD-ROM?
The processor is a Pentium 486-DX4 running at 100Mhz.
The BIOS reports 16Mb of RAM.
This will be a dedicated BSD box -- no other OS's.

My installation of FreeBSD 4.5 proceeds to the point of copying the =
contents of /bin to the root file system. The message:

    Extracting bin into / directory. . .

appears in a Progress window. At the bottom of the screen, a message =
states that:

    1024 bytes read from bin dist, chunk 1 of 143 @ 1.0 KBytes/sec.

I have restarted many, many times. (On one occasion, the previous =
message suggested that the read progressed to chunk 2. Prior to the =
installation's attempted copy of the file system, distributions, etc., =
the kernal configuration reported that=20

All filesystem information (was) written successfully;=20

however, the message:

starting emergency holographic shell on VTY4

. . .appears. What is the significance of the so-called emergency =
holographic shell? How should I use it? At the point that the extract =
stops, the system is locked-up. Nothing seems to respond. My only =
recourse is to reboot and start over.

Suggestions?

Thanks,
Ron W.
