They were.  Otherwise the message would have been sent only to the intended

I've observed many Windows users who prove the point.

Do you?  If so, that does not bode well for doing the same with UNIX, does
it?

I know lots of people who have taken PCs out of boxes and set them up with
no expert help at all.  Including e-mail and browsing.
